The Computational Materials Group (CMG), led by Prof. Izabela Szlufarska and Prof. Dane Morgan, congratulates Dr. Shuguang Wei on the successful defense of his Ph.D. dissertation.
Dr. Wei’s research under the supervision of Prof. Izabela Szlufarska focused on deformation-induced grain refinement in ultrafine-grained materials (with grain sizes ranging from ~100 nanometers to 1 micron) and the underlying mechanisms governing this process. He also investigated chemical short-range order (CSRO) in high-entropy carbides (HECs), exploring pathways to tune CSRO and elucidating its impact on the properties of HECs. In addition, Dr. Wei studied radiation-induced segregation (RIS) in binary borides and HECs—phenomena that have been predominantly examined in metallic systems—extending understanding of RIS to ceramic materials.
