Izabela Szlufarska receives 2008 NSF
CAREER award
Assistant Professor of Materials Science &
Engineering Izabela Szlufarska received
the 2008 National Science Foundation
Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER)
award. She was awarded $400,000 over five
year period for a project "Molecular Basis
for Viscoelastic Response of Nano-Mechanical
Biosensors". This project will provide
relationships between molecular structures
at the solid/liquid interface and the
mechanical response of MEMS/NEMS
resonators. The ability to predict
relative resonance shifts will enable
design of structures capable of real-time
biosensing and will lead to basic
understanding of wear and related issues.
